Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central MA/Metrowest strives to enhance the quality of life for at-risk children and their families, by matching these children in professionally supported mentoring relationships with responsible and caring volunteers.
Since 2008, BBBS has partnered with Seven Hills Public Charter School to offer a school-based mentoring program to its students. Please take a few minutes to view this video about BBBS school-based programs:
The BBBS program at SHPCS provides students, or “Littles” with one-on-one mentoring with a trained volunteer, a “Big Brother” or “Big Sister”, to support the child’s personal and academic growth. Once a week, the Big helps in a portion of their Little’s tutorial/SHELL, then the match continues meeting into the lunch/recess block that follows. BBBS provides board games, arts and crafts and sports equipment so that Bigs and Littles are sure to have a lot of fun together!
Our Big Brothers and Big Sisters are students from the College of the Holy Cross and are athletes on either the varsity women’s soccer team or varsity men’s baseball team. Every Big has been accepted through the BBBS application process, which consists of a written application, personal reference checks, background checks and an in-person interview with a BBBS trained professional.
If you would like more information about the program, please feel free to contact Maureen McKeon, the BBBS program coordinator, or Korey Lee, the SHPCS school contact for BBBS programs (see contact information below).
**Though we are always accepting new child applicants, due to the number of applications we have already received for the 2011-2012 academic program year, it is possible that your child could be placed on our waiting list.**
