H’Arts and Hope for Haiti - at the Hanover Theater on February 26. Seven Hills Stomp Team and Seven Hills Show Choir will join with 20 other youth performance groups in Worcester for a benefit performance beginning at 6:30 p.m. WSRS and WTAG are promoting the event and some choir members will be coming to you live from the Morning Show with Jackie and Greg (96.1) at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, February 1.

Seven Hills Families and staff can contribute by purchasing a ticket to this event from any Show Choir or Stomp member or can make any monetary donation as well (Cash or Check). All net proceeds will go directly to the American Red Cross. If you are making a donation by check, please make checks payable to American Red Cross International Response Fund or ARC International Response Fund. Our "Varsity Gold Card" Fundraiser is currently underway! These cards cost $10 but are effective for an entire school year and offer great discounts at many restaurants and stores (McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Ritz Camera, etc.).

The proceeds from these sales will support our school activities. The selling period ends on Friday, September 5th.

Spanish Night is May 8th from 6-8PM at Mount Carmel. This is a fantastic event with food, dance, music, a live band, and an opportunity for students to demonstrate their talents and celebrate the Spanish culture. This is a free event and open to all.

Sadly, the basketball season has come to an end for our Panthers. Congratulations to both the girls and boys basketball teams on completing their seasons and representing our school so well. An extra special congratulations goes to the girls' team which made it all the way to the finals and finished the season in 2nd place! Thank you to Ms. Roy and all those involved for your hard work and dedication. Next season is only about eight months away!

Due inclement weather, all Saturday activities on March 1st at the Seven Hills Public Charter School have been cancelled.

This includes the Show Choir trip to the Dr. Seuss Museum in Springfield, MA and the Saturday administrative detention.

The annual Science Fair, "Science in Action", will be held in the gym on February 28, from 6:00 until 7:30pm. Projects are being accepted from students in grades 5-8 (every eighth grader is expected to submit a project). PowerSchool is Seven Hills' new student information system. It is replacing Centerpoint. Parents and students can use it to access grades, attendance records, teacher comments, upcoming assignments and much more!

Students in grades 3-8 will have received their PowerSchool account information and training by the middle of September.

All parents (grades K-8) will have multiple opportunities to receive their PowerSchool account information and training. The first opportunity will be on the morning of Saturday, September 8. The second opportunity will be on our first Family Night which is on Monday, September 10 (see the post below this one for more information about these events).

Please note that parent accounts are different from student accounts, and parent account information will not be released until September 8.

Congratulations to our stomp team for winning first place in this weekend's competition at Assumption College! They also won the "Judges Award" and "Best Fans!" Great job!

All Show Choir members should plan on coming to the school to take a bus to a special performance on May 12 at Tuckerman Hall for the Massachusetts Cultural Council. We will meet at Seven Hills bus staging area by l0:30 a.m.

Disney choir members should plan on going to their dress rehearsal on Sunday, April 29. They should meet at Seven Hills bus staging area by 11:00 a.m. Parents should pick their kids up at Seven Hills by 2:45 p.m. All choir members should come to one final rehearsal on Tuesday, May 1 from 3-5 p.m. All chaperones should plan on meeting on May l from 5-5:30 p.m. The Disney choir will leave Seven Hills on May 3 at 5:30 a.m. and will return to the school on May 7 at around 8 p.m. Parents will be called when the children get to the airport on the 7th.

Please plan on coming to enjoy our "Aladdin" performance on Friday, April 27 or Saturday, April 28 at Quinsigamond College (Hebert Auditorium). The performances begin at 6:30 p.m. You can buy tickets from Mrs. Holton or Mrs. Lemoyne in advance or at the door. All cast members should plan on coming to the performance at Quinsigmond College (Hebert Theater) by 5:00 p.m. and should plan on having their parents pick them up by 8:00 p.m. both nights.

MCAS testing begins next week for grades three through eight. This first two week window will focus on English Language Arts. Remember, students perform best when they are well rested, well fed and encouraged to give it their all. Thanks for ensuring that every student comes to school prepared. All absences must be documented with medical notes in order to be excused.

Friday, March 16th and Monday, March 19th are half days for students.

Arts Day is on Sunday, March 18th, at the Worcester Art Museum from 1:00 - 4:00. Join us!

The third and final trimester is now under way. Students, please take this time to reflect upon your year thus far and think about what you would like to achieve before moving on to the next grade. You, your teachers and parents should all work together to discuss a third trimester goal and find ways to support one another in achieving that goal. I know you can do it!

Arts Day - March 18

The Seven Hills Charter Public School is proud to announce that we will be celebrating the arts in March in a very special way! The Worcester Way! Join us at the Worcester Art Museum. In addition to outstanding art displays, all of our performing groups will present their talents beginning at l:00 p.m. Our Mime Team, Stomp Team and Ensemble will be performing and the Show Choir will premier the new songs written by Carmino Ravosa.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Worcester Cultural Commission, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Our Destination Imagination team did a fabulous job at this weekend's competition. I am so proud of the way they learned to use creativity to solve problems, show confidence when performing in front of a group and work together as a team. Way to go!

Our Boy's basketball team competed in four games this weekend as part of a MA Charter School tournament. Although they lost their first game, they won their second and third. They did not win their fourth game, thus eliminating them from the finals. Great job!

Our JA Boys Basketbal team won their game against Princeton last night. They will play again tonight at Monty Tech in Fitchburg at 5:15. Come and cheer them on! Good luck!

SLC's will be sent home with all students on Friday. Parents should sign and return the envelop so their student may dress down on Monday, March 12th.

Model Citizen Assemblies will be on Friday, March 9th. (EA at 8:30 AM, PA at 10:00 AM, JA at 11:20 AM). Please join us in the gym as we recognize the accomplishments of Seven Hills students.

The public lottery for enrollment for the 2007-2008 school year will be on Thursday at 6:00 PM in the gymnasium.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Read Across America Day contests and events! Although every team played well, the "Cat in the Hat" team won the competition. The Seven Hills Charter Public School is proud to announce that we will be celebrating the arts in March in a very special way! The Worcester Way!

In the month of February, the 3rd grade students at Seven Hills will be learning all about Worcester in an interdisciplinary unit. They will enjoy going on a “Worcester Magical History Tour” and visiting historical places around Worcester such as Clara Barton’s Home, and Mechanics Hall. The 3rd grade teachers , Jen Cusak, Latisha Ambroise and Lauren Shattuck will be working with their students on special projects including a huge Worcester Time Line .

Music teacher, Kathleen Holton will be bringing famous children’s composer, Carmino Ravosa, back to write some original songs about what is going on in Worcester right now. Mr Ravosa wrote some original songs about the heroes and history of Worcester in l998 for the l50th Celebration. Since that time, the Show Choir from Seven Hills have performed these songs at over 100 community and national events. He’s back with some amazing new songs. One, entitled, “The Worcester Way” will help us all learn about what is happening right now in Worcester! All of the students in grades 3-5 will learn these new songs. The 3rd grade students will create some dialog to present with the Show Choir on March l8.

On March l8, all of the Seven Hills Community will celebrate the arts at Worcester Art Museum. All of our performing groups will present their talents beginning at l:00 p.m. Our Mime Team, Stomp Team and Ensemble will be performing and the Show Choir will premier the new songs written by Carmino Ravosa.

The Art teachers, Sandy Robillard and Collen Fickera will help students create special art work to display at the museum on the l8th.

Seven Hills students and staff are excited about having the opportunity to work with Worcester Art Museum’s Honee Hess and Janet Rosetti to create a really special salute to the arts and an opportunity to learn about the rich history of Worcester through the arts. Music Teacher Kathleen Holton is really excited about working with Carmino Ravosa again.

March 2nd is Read Across America Day. In honor of Dr. Seuss, Seven Hills will host an interactive, multimedia trivia contest. Check it out!

February 2nd is Job Shadow Day. In keeping with our College Bound theme, guest speakers will visit classes to share information about their jobs and the education needed to perform them well.

Committing acts of kindness and justice can be contagious! Join us as we learn about people who have helped shape our world through their courage and conviction to do the right thing and help others. For more information, check out dosomething.org.

The Committee for Integrative Technology has met 2 times since the start of 2007. We have begun discussions on important issues including:

1) Improving the experience of laptop cart integration
2) How to go about introducing staff to new technology and accommodating their technology integration needs
3) How to improve the educational experience for students through the use of technology

The Committee meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month. Meetings are open to all members of the Seven Hills community. Please join us at our next meeting and check out our resources within Centerpoint in the Technology Integration group.

Our school play, Aladdin, is set to be performed this coming April. Mr. Belanger, Ms. Holton, and dozens of students are working hard to make sure that the play is a success.

Mr. Coyne is still accepting pictures to be placed on the school website. Anything related to Seven Hills Charter Public School is acceptable, but there are no promises when or if your pictures will be posted. If other people are in the pictures you send, please first make sure that they and/or their parents are okay with the pictures being placed online. Please also include the names and grade levels of all people in the photo (unless it is a large assembly-type picture). A short description of the photo would be helpful as well.
